What Goes In Your Notebook -- Anything!

Newspaper Clippings -- we actually type ours over on the computer and use those printouts to cut and paste, keeping the original in its own plastic sleeve.

Obituaries and Other Newspaper articles.

Death Certificates

Marriage Certificates

Funeral Records -- if the funeral home is still in business, you may be able to obtain records from them, including the bill!

Pictures of individuals, families, gravesites, and homesteads if we can find them.

Census records -- we make a copy of the original and then fill in forms for easier reading.

Advertisements that relate to the family/member.

Court papers -- vendues, estate information, property listings, etc.

Military Records -- draft cards, discharges, enlistments, etc.

Letters -- written by the individual we're researching.

School Records -- report cards, graduations, events

Church Records -- Marriages, Communions, Attendance -- even if they were removed from the rolls for bad behavior!

Journal Pages -- Don't be shy!  Tell how you found your information.  Describe your feelings, trips, adventures!

GraveDigger Fast Fact Forms -- We have several!  Use for notes or for your finished project!

Ship Manifests -- some of your ancestors may have come here by ship.

We try to source everything!  We also started putting on the pages how this person relates to us -- our keywords are DIRECT or INDIRECT.  To us, the individual is in direct line to us -- if they are not in direct line, then we call them INDIRECT relatives.  Many of our note pages carry our key words.

Sometimes we highlight the information in yellow so that you can easily follow what family you are in and how they are connected.  I realize this isn't exactly professional; but, it sure helps us when we are trying to put things together!

References from books and the internet also go in the books, particularly if they mention the family member's name, or military unit as shown here.

So!  What are you waiting for?  Start your family notebook today!

P.S.  Buy more than one notebook -- you're gonna need it!
